James B. Slater, CPA

James B. Slater is a Partner with McGill, Power, Bell & Associates, LLP. He joined the firm in 2021, with nearly 20 years of experience in accounting, assurance, and other advisory services. His tenure includes more than 5 years as the Chief Financial Officer for a closely-held group of companies in the construction industry, and nearly 15 years in public accounting.

James’ public accounting experience includes providing audit, review, compilation, and general accounting services to clients, as well as specialized professional services such as evaluations of internal control systems, operational/profitability studies, and other management consulting services. In addition to client services, he was responsible for assisting with the oversight and monitoring of his previous firm’s system of quality control, which included ensuring compliance with professional standards, providing technical consultations on audit and accounting matters to clients and staff, technical reviews of financial statements, and presentation of continuing education on audit and accounting subjects, both internally and externally. The practical skills and experience that James gained during his time as a Chief Financial Officer enhance his abilities to assist clients.

James is a graduate of Clarion University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting (Summa Cum Laude). He is a lifetime member of Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS), the international honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB International — the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

Professional and Civic Organizations

He is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA). James currently serves on the Accounting and Auditing Steering Committee as well as the Schools and Colleges Thought Leadership Committee for PICPA. He has served on other PICPA committees in the past including the state-level Professional Ethics Committee and the Executive Committee for the Northwestern Chapter. James is also a Past President of the PICPA’s Northwestern Chapter, and he was recognized by the PICPA as one of its “40-Under-40 Members to Watch” in the accounting profession.
